Recently my dad and I got an invite from our cousin Marcos to fish Castaic off his boat. We eagerly accepted and began to scramble through our bay bass tackle searching for baits that we felt might work for their freshwater cousins. Armed with an array of hardbaits and jigs our plan was to fish what we felt confident in and go from there.

Being a local, Marcos has been putting in time at Castaic and had a handful of spots pretty dialed. We were on the water just as the sun crested the surrounding hill sides and before the fog could burn off we had bass on the boat.

We had to work for a lot of the fish, but were able to locate a few drop offs and extended points that held schooling fish that made for some really fun fishing for a limited time once the sun got hot. Crankbaits and deep diving jerkbaits did really well, but Marcos caught his share on the drop shot. The name of the game was low and slow especially when the air temp started to rise.
